Runai Spillane scores 1-3!

Glanmire Football Club Secretary Daniel Spillane scored 1-3 in a Junior B challenge game versus Douglas on Thursday 9th July in the Pike Field. The game ended in a 2-12 to 2-10 win for Douglas.

Glanmires U-21s showed that the hard work they have put in this paid off when they recorded a stunning victory against Youghal in the East Cork Championship Final. Congratulations to all involved in this tremendous achievement which bodes well for the future of the club

Intermediates defeated in first Championship test

The Intermediate side suffered defeat to Ballingeary in Round 1 of this years PIFC on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-08. They will play local neighbours Glenville in the back door round.

Juniors defeat Bride Rovers

Glanmire Junior A had 1-08 to 0-07 win over Bride Rovers in the 2nd Round of this years Championship, they will play Midleton in Round 3

Juniors suffer Championship defeat

Glanmire's Junior A Football team suffered defeat at the hands of Aghada in the 1st Round of this years East Cork Championship on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-08 on Friday 13th March in Carrigtohill.

Intermediates begin League campaign with win

Glanmire's Intermediate team got their 2009 league campaign off to a flying start with a hard fought victory over Clyda Rovers on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-12 on Monday 2nd March 2009 in the Pike Field, Sallybrook.

Juniors off to winning start

Glanmire Junior 'A' began their 2009 League campaign with a 2-10 to 0-05 victory over Cobh on Wednesday 18th February. For further details see the match report in the Adult club section above.

Junior and U-21 2009 Championship draws announced

Glanmire Junior 'A' will face Aghada, whilst the Junior 'B' side will face Midleton. Glanmire U-21's will face Glenbower Rovers. For further details see the relevant team section above.

  

Pat O' Shea coaches Academy Players

Former Kerry Senior Football Manager Pat O' Shea gave Glanmire's Academy players a thorough workout on Friday 16th January. An intensive session of football tactics and techniques was enjoyed by all in attendance. Everyone involved with Glanmire GAA Club and particularly the Academy, would like to thank Pat for giving up his time, it is greatly appreciated.

~~ Intermediate Championship Begins for 2010 ~~

  

This years Premier Intermediate Championship will get underway for Glanmire this Saturday 15th May. Ballingeary will the opponents for this First Round match. The game will be played in Coachford at 6pm. Best of Luck to all involved.

Junior As out of Championship

Following on from a great victory over Carrigtwohill in Round 1 of this years Junior A Championshio Glanmire were drawn against Cloyne in Round 2. A hard fought game, played on 6th May in Rostellan, saw Glanmire lose out by a single point. On a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-12, goals proved to be the difference between the sides. It was a great performance from Glanmire but a Diarmuid O'Sulivan inspired Cloyne team proved just too strong in the end.

U21s Win East Cork Title

Glanmires U21 A side have retained their East Cork title after a victory over Aghada. Glanmire won the game by a single point on a scoreline of 0-12 t0 0-11. Congratulations to all involved in this wondeful success.

A Tribute to Mick Barry

The Officers, Committee, Players and Members of Cumann Peile Gleann Maghair wish to express our deepest sympaty to the family of the late Mick Barry who passed away on the 16th March 2010. Mick was a legend, a great man from a great GAA family. No job was too great for him and he gave a lifetime of service to Cumann Luthchleas Gael at local, divisional and county juvenile level. 

As a player he won a County Junior Championship medals in 1951 and 1958, as well as a County Senior Hurling Championship medal in 1957. 

He coached, selected and transported many juvenile teams to county and divisional success. He was a County Minor Hurling selector in 1972 and a selector on various Imokilly teams. 

From 1963 to 1984 he served as Cathaoirleach of Sars/Glanmire Juvenile Club. Mick also served as Cathaoirleach of Glanmire Adult Football club for twenty years and as Cisteoir for five years. Mick was also acted a major fundraiser for both Glanmire and Sarsfields clubs. He put in great effort ensuring all pitches were lined and in a playable condition. His van was also put to use in transporting players to and from games, ane he also brought many players to Dublin for All-Ireland Finals. He also had a great hand to play in aquiring the land on which Glanmire Football Club is situated.

Greatly involved in all areas of the game, Mick was a delegate for East Cork Football Club Board East Cork Bord na nOg. In recognition of Micks great service to the game and the local area Mick was voted Glanmire Person of the Year in 2002 by Glanmire Community Association. 

No words can express Micks great work for the GAA. We have lost the services of a great stalwart and friend. May He Rest in Peace.

Victory for Glanmire in First Round of Junior A Championship:

Glanmires Junior A side had a one point victory over Carrigtwohill on March 24th on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-10. Glanmire will face the winners of Lisgoold v Cloyne in the this years Quarter Final.

Glanmires Junior A side play Carrigtwohill this Wednesday 24th March 2010 at 8pm in Rostellan in the First Round of this years East Cork Championship. 

  

The Premier Intermediate side will have their first Championship game against Ballingeary in April.

Bishopstown victorious in McSwiney Cup

A combined team of Junior A and B players played out a hard fought game against city rivals Bishopstown in the first round of this years McSwiney Cup. Goals proved to be difference as Glanmire were defeated by 2-06 to 0-06 in Kiely Park, Buck Learys Cross.

Junior season draws to a close

Glanmire's Junior A side played out their final 2 league games against Dungourney and Lisgoold. a final day victory over Lisgould on a scoreline of 3-08 to 0-11  was not enough to secure a place in the League Final after a 3-04 to 0-08 defeat to Dungourney in the penultimate round of league fixtures.

  

And despite good wins in warm-up challenge games over the likes of Glenville, the Junior B side suffered defeat to Midleton in the East Cork Junior B Championship on a scoreline of 0-07 to 0-09.

Glanmires Junior A side have two games left to play in this seasons league.

First up is a game against Dungourney on Thursday 17th September in Dungourney at 8pm, followed by a final game against Lisgoold, date and time TBC.

Premier Intermediate Championship:

Glanmire are through to the semi-final of this years Premier Intermediate Football Championship after a convincing win against Ballinora in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday 29th August. 

Glanmire were victorious on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-05. They will play Valley Rovers of Innishannon in the semi-final game, on Saturday October 3rd at 7.30pm in Pairc Ui Rinn.
