Glanmire 1-07 Macroom 0-07

Glanmire minor footballers are through to the county final after defeating Mrcroom by a goal in an entertaining contest in Cloughduv last night. Excellent points from Darragh O’Rourke prior to him coming off injured gave Glanmire the confidence they needed to overtake their opponents. A penalty midway through the first half was converted by centre forward David O’Brien. With Cillian Burke dominating play in the middle and the excellent half backs Conor Power, David O’Brien and James O’Keeffe in flying form Glanmire continued to dominate their opponents.

The 2nd half proved to be more challenging against the driving wind and rain. Macroom came more into the game and 2 sendings off (one on either side) livened things up considerably. However, Glanmire prevailed (with the aid of the crossbar) and with the excellent substitute Máirtín Fleming taking the game to Macroom in the dying stages. Special mention must go to Declan O’Connell, John O’Driscoll, Daniel Spillane, Jerry Reen and the rest of the backroom team for the manner in which the minor team have performed this year. A county final now awaits in a few weeks against either Beara or Valley Rovers and nothing is beyond this group of players. Well done!
