Glanmire 0-2 Valley Rovers 1-14

Some days the football just doesn’t hop right for you and today was certainly one of those days for Glanmire minor footballers in this afternoon’s minor county final against Valley Rovers. Saying that, we must congratulate the Innishannon men on a fantastic performance from start to finish.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Glanmire never got to grips with the pace of the game, with Valleys dominating most areas of the pitch. A penalty in the 15th minute gave Valleys a 1-03 to 0-00 lead, with Glanmire missing some close in frees. Glanmire continued to take the fight to the opposition and points from James O’ Keeffe gave Glanmire some hope going in at the break. Glanmire 0-2 Valley Rvrs 1-6.

However, playing against the breeze in the 2nd half, proved a challenge. Glanmire raised their game and improved performances from Oisin Simpson and David Murphy helped Glanmire attack with more purpose. However, the Valley Rover’s rearguard proved very difficult to break down. Valleys ended up winning on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-02.

Great credit is due to the backroom team of Jerry Reen, Martin O’Keeffee, Daniel Spillane, Declan O’Connell (Snr), John O’Driscoll, Aoife Bourke (Physio), and to Declan O’Connell (Jnr) who has put trojan work into this team since last January. Finally, to the group of players, who although didn’t have their best day today, have brought great pride to their family, friends and the parish of Glanmire over the last 10 months. Onwards and upwards from here.
