Under 12 Footballers win Adare Tournament

Our U12 footballers has a great victory yesterday in the Adare football tournament. Six clubs took part in the competition: Adare, Limerick; St Marys Clonmel, Tipperary; The Nire, Waterford; Dr Crokes, Kerry; Doora Barefield, Clare and Glanmire representing Cork. Teams firstly participated in a round robin format. Each games was 15 mins duration. We had 28 players so we split them into two squads. Squad 1 played Adare and Dr Crokes loosing both matches. Squad 2 played The Nire and Doora Barefield loosing one and winning one. We then reshuffled the teams for final match but again lost out to St Marys, Clonmel. While we lost four of the five matches in the round robin we were very happy with the way the lads had played. They were competitive in all games and showed great heart.
The top two teams in the round robin went straight to the semi final while the bottom four played in the quarter finals. Again the quarter & semi finals were each 15 mins duration and the final was 2 x 10mins duration. Glanmire faced Doora Barefield in the quarter final. We started very well and leading into the closing stages were 0-5 to 0-3 up. Doora Barefield piled on the pressure in the closing stages looking for a goal to win it. Through some valiant defending Glanmire held out.
We faced Dr Crokes in the semi-final. Having lost to them in the Ballymacelligott  tournament some weeks previously and in the round robin in Adare the lads were determined to make amends. In this game they probably played some of their best football ever. Everyone who lined out gave a massive performance. The final score in this game was Glanmire 1-06, Dr Crokes 0-01. One player who really stood out in this game was John Grandon. Later he told us that he attributed his performance to his breakfast of a boiled egg and toast.
Glanmire now faced Adare in the final winning on a score line of Glanmire 2-07 to Adare 0-00. In scenes of unbounded joy Sean King accepted the Cup on behalf of Glanmire. This is the first competition these lads have won in gaelic football. Hopefully it bodes well for the future.
The lads had a great and memorable day yesterday. They are great bunch of lads, well behaved but enjoy the craic. The C3 squad have the league final to look forward to. This will be against Carrigaline but the date isn’t fixed yet.
