U13s Central 1 Team records a good win over Ballincollig : Glanmire 6:8, Ballincollig 2:6.

On Sunday March 15th, the U13s recorded a good win over Ballincollig in the Central 1 league to gather their first points in the league. After two league defeats, this performance was an immense  improvement on the previous two games and was an all around strong team performance.

 

Glanmire took the initiative early with goals from the hard-working Cathal McCarthy,  and Alan Doyle who characteristically jinked his way through for a score. Colm McCarthy, operating in Corner forward, was a constant threat and scored a good point from play. The player that really caught the eye and is improving with every game was Mark Guinnane playing at midfield. This was typified by the score of the match just before half time, where starting a few yards behind his man, Mark out sprinted his opponent , gained possession and went on break through the defense  and score a tremendous point.

 

Glanmire lead at the short whistle by 4:4 to 0:2. At the start of the second half, Cathal McCarthy scored his third goal. As the half progressed  Ballincollig came more into the game, however Glanmire’s defense proved robust and had very strong peformances from their central defenders, Luke Elliot at full back and team captain Daniel Hogan at Centre back, both players who also had strong performances in the Feile competition the previous day. Colin O’Mahoney cleared his lines on numerous occasions and linked up well with the hard working James Gibson and Eric Geary who played well throughout. The team’s most recent member, David O’Connor had a good game also and linked up well with his new team mates. Ballincollig scored two goals to cut the deficit but Glanmire went on for a well deserved win.
