Glanmire U 15s Win Again In The League

Glanmires second outing in the 2016 league was away to Passage on Sunday 20/03/2016.The match turned out to be one hard fought encounter with both teams undefeated at this early stage of the season.

Points in the first half from Oisin Dennehy ,who made more of his trademark great runs today, two from Jack Leahy playing wing back and who won every ball that came his way and one from Thomas Lonergan ,again showing great confidence in attack.

However Glanmire went in at half time, trailing Passage on the scoreline of 1-2 to 0-4. Following a rallying of the troops at half time Glanmire came out at the start of the second half brimming with confidence and very quickly pinned back Passage with a great goal smashed into the back of the net by Jack Sparrow and a free kick pointed by Thomas Lonergan in the first few minutes of the second half.

Further scores from Jack Leahy ,Michael Funchion and two by Thomas Lonergan one of which came after a magnificent ball gathered while under close marking before subtly slotting it home and finally another excellent score from Jack Sparrow made up Glanmires second half scores.

Although Glanmires scores came from a handful of players this truly was a great  15 man team performance. The Murphy twins ,Conor and David, made a very welcome return to Glanmire GAA and were absolutely superb in a dominant midfield display. Both worked very hard and covered every blade of grass in both attacking and tracking back to help the defense.

Nathan O Connell played the goalkeepers part to perfection having no chance with both goals ,one of which was a penalty. The full back line of Jack Darcy , Donnacha Mc Carthy and Brian Lagrue  combined perfectly again today to give a very solid defensive performance holding Passage to a score of only 1-1 in the second half despite being under intense pressure in the closing 10 minutes. Brian Lagrue ,same as the last game, gave a perfect example of a captains role .

The half back line of Jack Leahy Ben O Driscoll and Cian Murray gave outstanding performances ,Jack Leahy with his hatrick of points, Ben giving a controlled display at centre back and Cian defending well and making several attacking runs at the heart of the Passage defence.

Upfront David Mulcahy ,coming back from injury ,gave an excellent display of intelligent football with great possession play and passing ably assisted by David Shanahan who battled hard upfront with Michael Funchion giving his all despite being closely marked throughout the game. Oisin Hedderman who came on in the second half also made a major contribution battling hard for every ball.

The final whistle when it came, was a very welcome sound as the lads had given their all in an outstanding team performance and were all but dead on their feet.

Final Scoreline Passage 2-3  Glanmire 1-10
